Exercise Prescription

Personalised exercise plans designed to strengthen weak areas and prevent future injuries.

What Is Exercise Prescription?

Exercise prescription is the design and delivery of a personalised exercise programme by a qualified physiotherapist. Unlike generic workout plans, clinical exercise prescription is based on your specific diagnosis, functional limitations, and recovery goals. Every exercise has a therapeutic purpose.

Research consistently shows that exercise is one of the most effective treatments for musculoskeletal conditions. Our programmes combine strengthening, flexibility, balance, and functional movement training — progressed systematically to match your improving capabilities.

Supervised exercise sessions ensure correct form and technique

Who Is It For?

Exercise prescription is for anyone who wants to actively participate in their recovery — from post-surgical patients rebuilding strength to athletes optimising performance. It’s particularly valuable for chronic conditions where long-term self-management through exercise is the most evidence-based treatment.

If you’ve been told you need to “strengthen” or “stretch” but don’t know where to start, or if previous exercise attempts caused pain, a physiotherapist-designed programme removes the guesswork and ensures every movement is safe and effective.

Progressive strengthening tailored to your recovery stage

What to Expect

Your first session includes a functional assessment — we test your strength, flexibility, balance, and movement quality to establish a baseline. From there, we build a programme that addresses your specific weaknesses and goals.

During supervised sessions, your physiotherapist guides you through each exercise, correcting your form in real-time. Over subsequent visits, we progressively increase the challenge — adding resistance, complexity, or volume as your body adapts. By discharge, you’ll have the knowledge and confidence to continue your programme independently.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need gym equipment for my exercises?

Not necessarily. Many of our prescribed exercises use bodyweight, resistance bands, or simple household items. If you have gym access, we can incorporate equipment-based exercises into your programme.

How often should I do my exercises?

Typically 3-5 times per week, depending on the type and intensity. Your physiotherapist will provide a clear schedule with rest days built in for optimal recovery.

Can I continue my exercise programme after discharge?

Absolutely. We design programmes to be self-sustainable. By the end of your treatment, you will have the knowledge and confidence to continue independently.

What if an exercise causes pain?

Mild muscle soreness is normal when starting a new programme. However, sharp or worsening pain should be reported to your physiotherapist so we can modify your plan accordingly.
